Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are one of the most common treatments we provide, at Waipa Dental, our approach is focused on precision, comfort, and aesthetics, restoring your tooth in a way that looks natural and feels just like your own.
A modern approach to repairing teeth
When a tooth develops decay or minor damage, it needs to be treated promptly to prevent further breakdown. A dental filling removes the compromised part of the tooth and replaces it with a strong, protective material, restoring both function and appearance.
We take a conservative approach, preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible while ensuring a long-lasting result.
Do you need a filling?
Not all cavities are obvious. In many cases, decay develops silently without pain or sensitivity.
You may benefit from a filling if you have:
Early or moderate tooth decay
A chipped or worn tooth
Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods
Existing fillings that are worn, leaking, or failing
Regular examinations allow us to detect and treat issues early, often before they become more complex.
Our filling materials
We prioritise materials that are both durable and natural-looking:
Composite (tooth-coloured) fillings
Our most commonly used material, composite resin is carefully colour-matched to your tooth, allowing for a seamless, virtually invisible result. It bonds directly to the tooth, providing strength while maintaining a natural appearance.
Glass ionomer fillings
In certain situations, we may recommend glass ionomer. This material releases fluoride over time, offering additional protection for the tooth, particularly useful in lower-stress areas.
What to expect
We understand that dental treatment can feel daunting, so we focus on making the experience as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
Your appointment will typically involve:
Gentle numbing of the area for comfort
Careful removal of decay or damaged tooth structure
Thorough cleaning and preparation of the tooth
Placement and sculpting of the filling to restore natural shape
Polishing for a smooth, natural finish
Most fillings are completed in a single visit.
After your filling
It’s normal to experience slight sensitivity for a short period after treatment, but this usually settles quickly.
To keep your filling and surrounding teeth in excellent condition:
Maintain regular brushing and flossing
Attend routine check-ups and hygiene visits
Avoid excessive pressure from grinding or clenching (we can help with this if needed)
Why early treatment matters
Addressing decay early allows for simpler, more conservative treatment. Left untreated, a small cavity can progress, potentially leading to pain, infection, or the need for more extensive procedures such as root canal treatment or a crown.
If you think you may need a filling or have noticed any sensitivity or changes in your teeth, our team is here to help. Contact Waipa Dental to book an appointment and restore your tooth with comfort and care.
