Fluoride Applications
Our teeth deal with a lot every day, food, drinks, acids and bacteria all constantly interacting with the surface of our teeth. Over time, this can weaken the outer layer of the tooth, called enamel, making it easier for decay to develop.
A professional fluoride application is one way we can help strengthen enamel and give teeth a little extra protection.
At Waipa Dental we use Duraphat fluoride varnish, a concentrated fluoride treatment that is applied directly to the teeth. The varnish quickly sets and continues working after your appointment, helping the enamel absorb minerals and become more resistant to decay.
The process is very simple and only takes a few minutes. A small amount of varnish is gently applied to the tooth surfaces, where it sets and begins doing its job.
Fluoride applications are completely optional, but they can be especially helpful for:
Children, while their adult teeth are developing
Patients who are more prone to decay
People experiencing tooth sensitivity
Anyone who would like to give their teeth some extra protection
Our team may recommend a fluoride treatment if we think it would be beneficial for your oral health.
